Ms. Chavis received a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language Education from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 1995. She obtained a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas in 2004. She then obtained her Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 2021. Ms. Chavis is a fluent Spanish speaker.
Ms. Chavis is second- career attorney having spent over 15 years in public education as school counselor, teacher, and school administrator. While attending South Texas College of Law, Ms. Chavis participated in the Advanced Immigration clinic where she represented detainees as a student lawyer in immigration matters. She also represented immigrants in the Human Trafficking Clinic providing asylum representation to some of the most vulnerable populations.
Ms. Chavis joined Thomas Quinn LLP in 2022. She is admitted in the state of Texas and is based in the Houston office where she focuses on representing employers and carriers in claims brought under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and Defense Base Act.
